AWOM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation founded by Sarah Akiba, 24 year old, entrepreneur, wardrobe stylist and fashion designer from Miami, FL who lost her father to lung cancer in 2013.

She started this foundation in order to help fund other nonprofits and unite all people who have lost an "Angel." AWOM, an acronym for Angel Watching Over Me, derived from a social media trend of #angelwatchingoverme where other victims began telling their stories about their "angels." This inspired Sarah to combine her love for fashion and giving back to raise awareness and support the victims and families left behind by a loving friend, family, or any other important person in their life. Not only for those who have lost someone, but AWOM also helps other organizations and foundations and serves as their “ Earth Angel” by donating and volunteering.

In November of 2015, lung cancer awareness month, Sarah combined her love for fashion and her tragic loss to create the first AWOM event by designing a series of hats, which raised over $2000 where all proceeds were given to two lung cancer foundations: The American Lung Association and Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, to help raise awareness and find a cure. After such a successful first event, and seeing how much people cared a second event was planned, this time to make Angel Watching Over Me a foundation of its own.

The Angel Watching Over Me Foundation has grown in tremendous ways with it only being a year and half old! So much has been accomplished. Every other week we host support groups with Time Emotional Guidance Center for people who have lost a loved one in both Miami and New York called Time Talks. We have hosted Halloween parties for both Miami Children's Hospital and Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital. We also teamed up with the Miami Rescue Mission for the holidays, donating over 300 toys and participating in their Christmas Party. As well as teaming up with Live Love Give Elyse Marcus Foundation for a 5k run, and our most recent club AWOM Girls Club with Olsen Middle School. Finally, keeping our foundation fresh and avant garde by having our own magazine and podcast, AWOM Journal and AWOM radio.

Angel Watching Over Me's mission is to raise money to donate to different associations, families in need that have lost someone, and create support groups to simply speak. AWOM’s way to help raise awareness is by throwing a series of fun events, whether it be for fashion, music, art, where people can come together and socialize while giving back! Examples of this would be our Miami Swim week show at the Miami Beach Edition Hotel, and fashion show for AWOM Club during New York’s Fashion Week this past February.

Angel Watching Over Me is unique, compared to other foundations, because it is being run by young influencers. We want to make giving back cool and that's exactly what we have done so far! We strongly believe that nobody should have to go through this impossible event alone. So don't!
